This is Bolshevik!
Okay, so I am very certain that by now you have all been caught up on the NBC debacle. I would just like to make a few points incase you aren’t certain what’s going on.
- Leno’s ratings on his new show are terrible, so terrible that the NBC affiliates are losing viewers on their late night news because of it.
- NBC ass head Jeff Zucker wants to move Jay Leno’s show after the late night news, which happens to be when “The Tonight Show” is on, and always has been on.
- Conan O’Brien hosts “The Tonight Show” (Are you catching on yet?)
So where does this leave us? Well, it seems that Jeff Zucker is trying to force out Conan in order to say Leno. I would like to mention that this is not Leno’s doing, I know a lot of people are blaming him. My opinion is that Jay should just retire or move to another network. His ratings are the ones that are slipping, not Conans… so why should he be shafted? Jay just needs to fall on the sword, he has had enough of a run and enough money to last him.
Earlier this week Conan wrote a mighty elegant letter stating that he will not go along with the new proposed line up. (Leno’s show to be a half hour after the news bumping everyone’s show 30 minutes back) He stated:
Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.
He is absolutely correct, this would ruin the tradition and integrity of The Tonight Show, as well as Late Night. So, to stand up for Conan, I would like to say that he isn’t being an out right “brat” about having his show pushed back 30 minutes… it’s the idea of the franchise that people have strove to maintain.
Today, I read this article that said that Jeff Zucker wants to take Conan off the air if he will not follow along like a good boy. He has 3 1/2 years left on his contract and Zucker says that he will keep him off the air that entire time. What a douche.
Also, rumors are circulating that next week will be the last week Conan will host The Tonight Show. Let’s keep fighting, kids; Conan deserves this… and remember, it’s not all Leno’s fault so let’s point our fingers in the right direction.. at Jeff Zucker.

American Idol
I have not watched American Idol in years, but last night I decided to sit down and watch the auditions; the auditions were always my favorite part anyway. After watching five minutes of the show I could tell that it hasn’t changed at all; this is a bad thing. Yesterday it was also announced that Simon Cowell will be leaving the show after this season, and after watching the episode last night I can definitely see why. The show has not transgressed at all and while it definitely still holds a place in pop culture history, I do not find it to be relevant anymore.
Last night Victoria Beckham, or “Posh Spice” as I know her, was the guest judge. I don’t think I even heard her comment on anyone’s voice at all. All I ever heard from her were comments about what people were wearing or their style etc… and it seemed a bit superficial to me. While I understand that the “American Idol” should have a certain marketable look, I don’t think it’s important to dwell on it so early in the judging process. However, I have to admit that guy that was dressed like Michael Jackson with a mullet kind of deserved the shit he was given. I also have to admit that you do not watch American Idol looking for anything more than superficial entertainment (referring to my earlier comment).
The lack of transgression and the same old weird contestants have worn considerably on the charm of the show for me. I think it’s time for the show to pack up and call it a day after this season, especially considering once Simon leaves that show will go straight downhill.
